SPRITE / AUTOMATA

Cellular Automata

A grid of cells. Each generation, birth and survival depend on neighbor count. Simple rules, emergent complexity. Paint cells by clicking or dragging. Switch rulesets to see radically different behaviors from the same engine.

RULES

Life — Conway's classic. B3/S23. Gliders, oscillators, still lifes.
HighLife — B36/S23. Adds replicators.
Day & Night — B3678/S34678. Symmetry between alive and dead.
Seeds — B2/S. Every cell dies. Only births. Chaotic explosions.
Diamoeba — B35678/S5678. Growing diamond-shaped amoebas.

INTERACTION

Click or drag on the grid to paint living cells with a 3x3 brush. Use PAUSE to freeze the simulation while painting, then resume to watch your patterns evolve. SEED randomizes the grid. CLEAR wipes it for a blank canvas.

Cell color encodes age — cyan for newborn, purple for established, white-hot for ancient survivors. Reduced motion: generation interval slowed to 200ms.
